Here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions.  If you don't find the answer you are looking for, please send us an email or facebook message or give us a call (details below)!  


Do you offer swatches or samples?

No, and here’s why:  Many of our fabrics are one-time purchases. There is no regular supplier, so sending a swatch for a fabric that sells out right away isn't useful. Also, some of the rolls we are able to get are small yardages, so we don't want to use them up this way. Lastly, we carry hundreds of styles...it just isn't possible for our hard-working staff to pull heavy rolls just to cut a small bit. From our experience, swatches have value in the color or feel of a fabric, but don't show how it sews up, drapes, or acts. What we do offer is exceptional customer service via phone or Facebook to answer your questions and offer advice on the fabrics and we can make recommendations.  In many cases we've sewn these ourselves and may even have a better suggestion than what you were looking at. We also have great descriptions on each website page, including weight, stretch, and uses. 

Your website shows full yards only, can I order part yards? 

We sell in full increments in order to track our inventory and have the correct amount available to others. Occasionally, we don't mind if you ask for additional half yards in your comments and we will fill it IF the yardage has not already been purchased. In this instance, we will send you an invoice for the additional half yard(s).  Please choose the lowest whole number and request the additional half yard in the Special Order Instructions box you should see in your shopping cart/during checkout.  We are unable to process refunds for partial yardages if you order more fabric than you require, so please call us if you have questions.

Will I be sent continuous yards when I order several yards of one colour/style?

It is our intention to send you continuous yards.  However, in some cases, that may not be possible especially when the length is over 5 yards.  We will contact you to let you know and you will have the choice of taking the split yardage or of a refund.

Do you offer bulk or wholesale pricing? 

Generally, no, due to the same reasons we can’t offer swatches.  However, if you have a bulk or wholesale request, please email us with your request and we will see what we can do.

Should I wash my fabric before sewing? 

We recommend washing before sewing to take care of any initial shrinkage and to remove any dirt and treatment chemicals left over from the manufacturing process.  We provide care instructions for each fabric below the main fabric description. 

How can I tell the face from the back of the fabric?   

We fold our fabric with right sides together.  When you unpack your fabric, take a moment to mark the wrong side as many fabrics have very similar right and wrong sides!  If you plan to wash your fabric first, mark the wrong side with something that will last through the wash.  Suggestions include:  sewing a scrap onto the wrong side selvedge or pinning a good safety pin to the wrong side. 

The colour of my fabric isn’t quite as I expected it.  Can I return or exchange it? 

Unfortunately, we do not accept returns on cut fabric.  We do our best to represent the colour and texture of our fabrics accurately by photographing each and every fabric and testing the photo against the actual fabric on several monitors.  Despite our best efforts, different monitors portray the colours a little differently.  If you aren’t sure if the colour is exactly what you want, please get in touch with us and we can show you the fabric via video or we can take additional photos with the fabric next to similar (or contrasting) colours to help you get a better idea of the shade and/or texture.

I think I see a flaw in my fabric, what should I do?

We do our best to catch flaws as we are cutting and packing your order (irregularities within 2 inches of the selvedge are not considered flaws). However, we may miss something.  If you think you have a flaw, please give us a call or send us an email and we will make it right!

I just placed an order and forgot to add something, can I add items to an existing order?

Yes. If you forgot an item or two in an order you just placed, simply put in another order and let us know in the Special Order Instructions box (located in your Cart) that this order goes with another order recently placed. Choose  Local Pick Up  as your shipping option so that you are not charged for additional shipping (we are unable to process refunds if you pay shipping on both orders you want combined, so please call us if you have any questions). We will add your two orders together and ship as one. If there is a large discrepancy in shipping charges, we will let you know the difference. We generally pack and ship orders within 24 hours so if you want to add something to an order after this time period, it’s best to call us during business hours as we may have to pull your package before it is picked up by Canada Post. Our parcels are picked up by Canada Post Monday-Friday at 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.  

I see a piece of fabric on your Remnant page I just have to have but I’m also considering some other fabrics.  If I order the remnant now, will you hold it while I think about the rest of my order?

We understand that our Remnants are a hot commodity and that you have to act fast to purchase the popular pieces before someone else does.  We are happy to set aside purchased remnants for a maximum of one week while you put together the rest of your order.  Unfortunately, we just don’t have enough shelf space to keep your purchased pieces for more than a week! 

I need some help colour matching, can you help me? 

Of course!  If you want to see what some fabrics look like in combination, simply send us an email or Facebook message with your request and we can send you some photos of the fabrics together to help you decide.

How long will it take for my order to arrive? 

We ship our orders via Canada Post and orders are packed and shipped Monday – Friday.  Most of the time, your order will be packed and shipped within 24 hours during regular business hours. During sales where we are processing high volumes of orders, shipping will take longer. During the checkout process, you will have the option to choose from a few different shipping services.  Due to the pandemic, Canada Post (and USPS) are experiencing extremely high mail volumes and shipments are taking longer than their delivery standards.  While you may get an estimated delivery date during check out, during these times it is likely your order may take a little longer to arrive. 

Do you have sales or discount codes?

Yes, we do!  We publicize our big sales on our website and via social media (Discovery Fabrics on Facebook and Instagram).  We will also put various colourways or fabrics on sale from time to time and these are marked with a small “sale” tag on the colour swatches. Ocassionally, we will offer a discount code for a limited time.  Discount codes are also promoted on our Facebook and Instragram accounts.  Unfortunately, discount codes or sale discounts cannot be applied retroactively to existing orders.

Do you have any coupon codes or a loyalty program?

We do have a loyalty program and it’s easy to join.  Here is a short video explaining the program.  Coupon codes are offered occasionally and are promoted via social media and our website.

What is the best way to get a hold of you?
