Riding Skirt Pattern
Riding Skirt Pattern
The Riding Skirt (also known as a Saddle Skirt) Pattern is a pdf download pattern plus instruction booklet. Discovery Trekking Outfitters (our parent company) has been manufacturing the Saddle Skirt for years and we are now offering the pattern to home sewists! The skirt was designed to keep the saddle and rider's legs dry during inclement weather. Depending on fabric chosen, the skirt will also provide additional warmth. As the skirt is worn by the rider, it also keeps the rider clean while doing barn chores or before competitions. If you have a rider in your life, this sewing pattern is for you! Difficulty level = confident beginner. Introductory sale offer until September 26, 2023!
Discovery Fabrics offers a wide variety of suitable fabrics for the Riding Skirt. This chart will help you decide which is best for you depending on your climate and preferences: Fabric Choices Chart. We also have a Notions Pack for the skirt that contains all of the notions required EXCEPT the edge binding/FOE as that is a personal preference. You will find the Notions Pack here.
If you wish to purchase your fabric at the same time as this pattern, here are the fabric requirements as found in the pattern instructions:
Fabric Requirements Note: The garment is cut on the fold, so the width of the fabric determines where the skirt falls on the rider’s legs. For persons up to 5’7” this is usually about mid-calf when in the saddle, if fabric is at least 60” (152cm) wide. If your fabric is narrower, you can simply make a shorter skirt, or you can lengthen it by either adding strips of fabric to the selvedge edge before cutting the pattern, or by laying out the pattern in the opposite direction (sideways). For pattern layout on narrow fabrics and adding lengths see video here: https://youtu.be/eKA2QOAr1Rk For those 5’7” or shorter, 1.5 yards is sufficient. For those wanting to lengthen the garment for longer legs, 2 yards is recommended.
Pattern Features: PDF Instant Download, Layered Sizes in formats: Letter, A4, A0 (Copy Shop) and Projector File
