Graphene Heat Reflective Lining

Heat reflective lining is not just for sportswear. It is beautifully soft and smooth, and suitable for dressy jackets, vests, coats...you name it! Some of the prints are bold and fun, others are subtle and classy.

What is Graphene?

Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. It's incredibly thin—just one atom thick—but has remarkable properties, including exceptional strength, flexibility, conductivity, and thermal stability. These qualities make graphene an exciting material for a wide range of applications.

Graphene's use in textiles has gained significant attention for its impressive properties. When incorporated into fabrics, it can provide a range of benefits beyond warmth, such as durability, conductivity, and flexibility.

Heat Reflective Lining

In the past we offered heat reflective lining that relied on silver stamping to retain body heat.  Graphene stamping is an improvement, because graphene offers better thermal conductivity.

Here's a breakdown of how graphene in textiles works and the level of warmth it can offer:

Warmth from Graphene-Stamped Lining:

  1. Thermal Conductivity: Graphene is known for its excellent thermal conductivity, meaning it can efficiently conduct heat. When used in textiles, a graphene-stamped lining can help to regulate body temperature by transferring heat from areas of high temperature to lower ones, helping to maintain a more consistent thermal environment.

  2. How It Helps with Warmth: The warmth provided by graphene is generally not as significant as the insulation layer (such as down or synthetic fill) or the outer layer of a garment. However, it can offer an additional layer of warmth by retaining some body heat near the skin, reducing heat loss, or even offering a mild "warming effect" if exposed to external heat sources (like sunlight or body heat).

  3. Amount of Warmth: The degree of warmth from graphene itself in textiles is modest. Its primary role is in heat regulation rather than providing a significant insulating effect. In a graphene-stamped lining, it may enhance the garment's ability to maintain warmth in cold conditions, but it will not replace traditional insulation materials. The warmth might be felt as a slight increase in comfort, but the primary heat retention still comes from other materials.

Other Features Graphene Offers in Textiles:

  1. Breathability: Graphene's structure can allow air to pass through, enabling breathability while still maintaining durability and comfort. This makes it useful in applications where ventilation is essential, like performance gear and activewear.
  2. Durability and Strength: Graphene is incredibly strong and flexible. When incorporated into textiles, it enhances the durability of the fabric without adding significant weight. This makes the material resistant to wear and tear, improving the longevity of the garment.

  3. Antibacterial Properties: Graphene's antibacterial properties make it useful in textiles for preventing the growth of bacteria and fungi. This can lead to reduced odors and increased hygiene, which is particularly beneficial in clothing worn during physical activities or in warm environments.

  4. Lightweight: Despite its strength, graphene is incredibly lightweight, which means that fabrics infused with it remain light and comfortable to wear. This is an advantage for activewear, sportswear, or even fashion, where both performance and comfort are essential.

Conclusion:

While the warmth from a graphene-stamped lining fabric would not be a significant source of insulation compared to the outer and mid layers of a garment, it does enhance the garment's ability to manage body temperature and retain some warmth. The most significant benefits of graphene in textiles are its strength and breathability,  Best of all, it is a smooth and comfortable fabric that facilitates ease of wear over other clothing, as it doesn't "catch" on base or mid layers, or other clothing you might be wearing that could cause friction.

We have some lovely prints in our graphene Heat Reflective Lining. They can be used for a variety of sportswear or to line dressy coats.

If Graphene's properties interest you, you might want to consider some Graphene Jersey.  It is smooth, moisture-wicking, and 50+ UPF sun protective...perfect for both summer and winter base layers.

Use to line jackets, vests, mitts, slippers, booties, sleeping bag liners, or pet beds. If using to line a pet bed, a lightweight fabric should be used overtop of the lining to help preserve the stamped silver finish from abrasive paws, claws or fur.
