PrimaLoft® Gold, Silver & Black Insulation
What’s the Difference?
PrimaLoft insulation was originally developed to provide a lightweight alternative to down that would still perform in wet conditions. Unlike natural down, PrimaLoft fibers resist moisture, maintain loft when damp, and dry quickly, making them ideal for activewear, outdoor apparel, gloves, sleeping bags, and insulated garments.
PrimaLoft insulation is generally divided into three primary performance levels: Gold, Silver, and Black. Each is designed for a different balance of warmth, weight, softness, durability, and price. All styles require quilting to stabilize the fibres. The recommended quilting interval for PrimaLoft Black is 6". PrimaLoft recommends combining their insulation with down-proof linings and outer fabrics.
PrimaLoft® Black Insulation
Everyday Comfort & Durability
PrimaLoft Black is designed as the most accessible and durable option in the PrimaLoft family. It provides dependable insulation performance at a lower cost, making it ideal for casual outerwear and lifestyle garments.
While it does not offer the same loft, softness, or compressibility as Gold or Silver, it still performs better in wet conditions than many traditional insulation materials.
