Sun Sleeves offer an easy solution to the harmful rays of the sun. Our Sun Sleeve Pattern (sold separately) calls for stretch jersey with a minimum of 50 UPF. It also requires a gripping fabric to keep the sleeves in place at the top of the arm. The pattern suggests either the silicone gripping fabric, or a gripping elastic for this purpose. We prefer the fabric as it is softer and less rigid than gripping elastic.
We have put together a materials pack which will allow you to make up to 3 sets of sun sleeves without having to purchase full yardage of the components. The pack includes approximately 24" length of either Sun Lite Jersey OR Graphene Jersey (width 58") and a 4" length of Silicone Grip Athletic fabric (also 58" wide). Fabrics are mass-cut and there is no choice of color. We choose which fabric is included, depending on availability. As we mass-cut these packs we cannot accomodate requests.
If you only want to make one set of sleeves, the leftover remnants are great for other projects. Or, if you wish to select your own prints to make fun designs, you can buy the components on their own. We recommend Sun Lite Jersey or Graphene Jersey for lightweight sun protection. You can also purchase yardage of the Silicone Grip Athletic, or Gripper Elastic.
We have a good blog article on Sun Protective fabrics, if you want to learn more!
